First five minutes
Install, open, write.
Everything else is optional.
1 · Write immediately
NoteX opens straight into your notes folder with a welcome note ready. Press Ctrl+N for a new note, type / for blocks. No signup wall, no tour to dismiss.
2 · Make it yours
Pick one of 8 themes, give notes icons and covers, and pull in your Notion pages if you have them. Install Claude Code or Codex from the curated catalog when you want AI beside you.
3 · Sync when ready
Sign in to sync across devices and share workspace notes with your team. Or don't: local notes stay fully local, and the Local workspace never syncs by design.
What lands on your disk
An app folder,
and YOUR notes folder.
NoteX keeps its home under Documents (Ultra/NoteX by default, configurable). Notes are .notex files, one per note, with their icons rendered live in Windows Explorer. Uninstalling NoteX never touches your notes.
How file ownership worksFor teams
Roll it out on your terms.
Desktop clients can point at Lisan Cloud or your own self-hosted server, the extension allow-list is yours to curate, and updates come from a stable channel you can verify. Ask us about enterprise rollout.
Talk to usFrequently asked questions
Does NoteX run without an internet connection?
Yes. The desktop app is local-first: notes are files on your disk and every editor feature works offline. Sync, shared workspaces, and AI add-ons need a connection when you use them.
How do updates work?
The desktop app updates itself automatically from Lisan's own update infrastructure (updates.lisan.org), the same way VS Code updates work. You can keep working while updates download.
Is there a macOS or Linux version?
Not yet. Windows is first, macOS is in the works, and the web app covers every platform in the meantime.
How big is the download?
About 140 MB, which includes the full editor engine, the PDF toolbox, and 8 themes. Notes themselves are tiny: kilobytes each.
Can I install it silently for my organization?
Yes, the installer supports standard silent flags for managed rollouts. Contact us for the enterprise deployment guide.
Your notes deserve a better engine.
A Notion-style block editor on the engine behind the world's most popular code editor. Notes stay files you own, extensions add what you need, and AI plugs in natively. Free to start, on web and desktop.
